Specializing in hearty hamburgers, sizzling hot dogs, and iconic sandwiches, this restaurant serves up a genuine taste of Chicago’s culinary spirit with a no-frills, welcoming atmosphere.

The menu at Billy Goat Tavern is a celebration of comfort foods done exceptionally well. From the iconic Cheeseburger Cheeseburger Cheeseburger and a Coke to the indulgent Triple Cheezborger, each burger is a masterclass in juicy, savory satisfaction. For something unique, the Obama Burger offers a distinctive twist, while the Double Cheeseburger with Bacon is pure decadence for those craving extra protein and smoky goodness.

The Polish Sausage also has a loyal following, blending beef and pork for a flavorful bite. Kids are well-catered for too, with smaller hot dogs and cheeseburgers perfect for little appetites.

Sandwich lovers will appreciate the Italian Beef Sandwich, a classic Chicago staple featuring thinly sliced roast beef bathed in savory au jus and served on a long Italian sub roll. Allison Henson highlights the immediacy of freshly made burgers and the buttery bun that elevates a simple cheeseburger to perfection. Jonathan Lonsdale confesses that out of the many great items, the ribeye steak sandwich left a lasting impression with its perfectly cooked, tender slices of real ribeye. A little hard to find because our Uber driver left us in the wrong spot but once we found it … it was sooo worth it. Loved the casual vibe. The double cheeseburger, chips (salt and vinegar) and coke was the perfect meal. The cheeseburger was so delicious. Perfectly made. So glad I went for the double vs. single cheeseburger. It was the ideal amount of meat. Going to try and make one more stop here before leaving Chicago. Thank you to the staff for the best dinner.

Wow what a fun place to visit. We had a back bar area reserved for a company event. While it was packed, we had a great time. I didn't see any bourbon I liked so I asked the bartender if they had other options. We went to the main bar and came back with several more options that made many of us VERY happy all evening!

Amazing burgers, but the ribeye steak sandwich was the beauty! Real sliced ribeye off the rib, fresh and cooked perfectly. Also a delicious fresh condiment bar with crispy pickles.

I love this place and make it a point to visit at least once every time I'm in Chicago. Great cheeseburgers (get the double) and hotdogs with self-serve condiments - including an endless amount of sliced pickles... they are delicious. The bar has a good selection of beer and liquor, with historical memorabilia hanging throughout. The overall vibe is very casual, and the place is typically a bit on the crowded side (tolerable). Fun place, good atmosphere, legendary.

Super cool place! The burgers were made literally as soon as you ordered and they were SO GOOD. Just your classic smash burger but with a nice buttery bun. They had a small buffet of extra toppings so you could customize your burger to your exact liking, but a plain “cheeseburger” was amazing. The atmosphere was 10/10, you really got a sense of the history behind the restaurant and the city.

Somehow landed here and let me tell you…the burger was SO good! I was originally going to stick with a single patty, but went with the double and couldn’t be happier with that choice. Everything is made fresh to order—one cashier running the counter while the chef is back there flipping burgers to perfection. The menu is short and sweet, which makes ordering super easy. They also have a little topping station with extras like pickles, onions, and ketchup so you can dress it up how you like. Since I’m not local, it took me a minute to find the place. Tip: keep an eye out for the signage on the lower level—it’s easy to miss if you’re not looking closely. This spot is honestly in a category of its own. If you’re in the area, definitely worth the stop!

Without a doubt, Billy Goat Tavern is one of Chicago's most famous burger joints! Founded over 90 years ago, it still serves legendary cheeseburgers today. Of course, there are countless burger places in the Windy City, but this one has cultivated a unique reputation over decades among politicians, athletes, celebrities, and journalists. Don't let the location or exterior fool you—inside, they serve freshly made (cheese) burgers that you can customize to your liking with pickles, lettuce, sauces, and onions. The double cheeseburger isn't exactly cheap and isn't comparable to gourmet burgers, but it's solid and delicious – ‘nuff said! Just go in and soak up the atmosphere! Down here, you'll quickly forget the glamour of the shops along Michigan Avenue and realize that a good burger can be everyone's favorite.

Billy Goat Tavern definitely lived up to its expectations. The nostalgic vibe to the place shows through the history that this place comes with. The staff is super friendly and the food is great. I stuck to the double cheeseburger that comes as recommended. They give you the burger and you get to choose the toppings. Overall a great experience and definitely recommended for those that visit the city.
